Sun Protection Oil Recipe

If you want a completely natural skin care product that protects your skin from UVA and UVB rays without titanium dioxide or zinc oxide then the following recipe might be of interest:

Mix equal parts of

– red raspberry oil

– macadamia nut oil

– wheat germ oil

– soybean oil

– jojoba oil

– coconut oil

– hempseed oil

– shea oil

– yangu oil

Add a few drops of carrot seed oil (5 drops per 30 ml). Apply liberally and repeat application at least every 2 hours if not more often (for very sun sensitive skin).

All of the above oils are said to have more or less SPF. They are rich in anti oxidants, natural chemicals, vitamin E and have a certain amount of vitamin A which helps to protect skin from sun rays.

If your oils are organic then all the better. If they are fair trade – molto bene. Fair trade oils are almost always „organic“ in that farmers don’t use pesticides (because they don’t have the money to buy them) – they just can’t afford the fee to have their oils certified organic….

If you have extremely sensitive skin or suffer from nut allergies then you may have to check with your pharmacist, dermatologist or GP before using any of the above oil. You may have to add zinc oxide if you suffer from hyper pigmentation in which case you may even have to add vitamin B3 and glucosamine but again, ask your GP or dermatologist who can advise you.

The recipe is based on my own experiences and the oils can also be used on hair – it protects from salt water if you apply it before you go for a swim. Just don’t expect a fashionable hairdo as it will make your hair greasy. Just comb it back during your stay on the beach and wash your hair with a mild shampoo before you go to bed. The „oil mask“ will leave your hair soft and manageable.

There are many more plant oils that have a natural SPF and with a bit of research you can find out which ones would benenfit your skin the most and mix your very own sun protection oil. Have fun!
