Let the sun shine…

.. but don’t let it burn your skin.

Now is the time when the most sun damage occurs on and in your skin. We tend to get more carefree meaning careless once spring arrives and the sun comes out. Whilst this is lovely and you do need to top up on your vitamin D, the rays can damage your skin if you don’t wear an SPF cream or lotion.

I don’t think I have to explain what SPF means. But did you know that there are some natural screens that protect your skin from damaging sun rays?

Raspberry Seed Oil Serum

If you are already wearing mineral makeup, chances are that this contains titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide. Both mineral powders are widely used in natural cosmetics because of their proven SPF. If there is raspberry seed oil in your mineral makeup – then all the better. Raspberry seed oil is said to have a good SPF (UV-A and UV-B rays) although we cannot market it as such without extensive testing which sadly is out of our price range.

If you can get your hands on a sun cream or sun lotion that contains raspberry seed oil and zinc or titanium oxide then that would be the best of all worlds. Or if you don’t like wearing makeup then just get a cream or lotion with these ingredients and use it as a day cream. Perhaps with just a touch of mica ( the stuff that colours mineral foundation) – this would then be a tinted moisturizer that gives you a fresher and more bronzed look without the need for sun exposure to achieve a darker tan. Alternatively you may purchase a good mineral powder foundation and mix a bit of powder into your day cream/lotion (not too much, just add a pinch at a time). Stir well as otherwise the powder does not disperse sufficiently. And only make a small batch at a time or you have to add a preservative for the tinted moisturizer to last more than 3 days.
